MotoRad Lev-R-Vent® radiator cap, perfect for street or race applications:
- 16-20 psi. (Cap says 18lbs/ 125kPa; this is the nominal rating).
- Standard size caps fit 2-1/8″ O.D. x 3/4″ deep neck, also known as standard SAE size “A”
- Stainless steel cap and spring.
- Locking Lev-R-Vent® lever to prevent radiator cap from coming unscrewed in high vibration environments such as in motorsports. Also locks the cap to the filler neck requiring the lever be lifted before removal. When the lever is lifted, the valve pressurizing in the cooling system is opened and pressure is vented through the overflow tube making it safe to remove the radiator cap.
- This is a “recovery system cap” that allows coolant to exit the cooling system into an overflow or recovery bottle as coolant heats and expands. As the system cools, recovery system caps will draw coolant back in to keep the cooling system full. Non-recovery system caps allow coolant to exit the system, but do not draw coolant back into the system.
- Higher cooling system pressure raises the boiling point of coolant to reduce the risk of overheating. Water boils at 212°F/ 100°C at sea level. Each pound of pressure in the cooling system raises the boiling point by 3°F. Example, a 20 psi radiator cap will allow for 60°F (3° x 20 psi) of additional temperature before the coolant (water) will boil in the cooling system; new boiling point of 272°F. Higher coolant pressure generally improves performance, not by making the engine run hotter, but by raising the coolant’s boiling point, preventing steam pockets, and allowing more effective heat absorption and dissipation, leading to cooler, more stable engine operation and better lubrication.
- MotoRad part number ST18.
