The oversize shank is what sets this series apart: the male thread is one size larger than the ball bore, so the shank and its jam nut are no longer the weak link in the assembly. If you have ever bent or snapped a rod end shank at a track-day curb or over a kerb-hopping chicane, this is the series that fixes it.

Compared to the economy series, PRXM/PRXB adds a 4340 alloy steel body, a 17-4 PH stainless race, and — critically for suspension work — a deliberately low breakaway torque of 1 to 15 in-lb (0.5 to 6 in-lb on the 1/4″ bore). A free-running rod end adds almost no stiction to the corner, so the spring and damper do the work instead of the joint.

How to Choose Right Hand vs. Left Hand
- Replacing an existing rod end? Match what came off the car. Aurora stamps the part number on the body — PRXM…T is right hand, PRXB…T is left hand. No stamp? Hold the rod end with the shank pointing down: right-hand threads tighten clockwise; if it threads on counter-clockwise, it is left hand.
- Building an adjustable link (tie rod, steering link, anti-roll bar link, radius rod, pushrod)? Use one right hand (PRXM) and one left hand (PRXB) on opposite ends of the tube with matching RH/LH tube adapters. That turns the assembly into a turnbuckle so you can adjust length precisely without disconnecting either end.
- Single-adjuster or clevis-mounted link? Right hand (PRXM) is the standard choice unless your chassis manual calls for left hand.

Construction & Materials
- Body — 4340 alloy steel, heat treated, protective coated for corrosion resistance. Oversize shank for substantially higher bending strength than a standard-shank rod end of the same bore.
- Ball — alloy steel, heat treated and hard chrome plated. Manufacturer’s option: heat treated 440C stainless steel.
- Race — 17-4 PH stainless steel, heat treated.
- Liner — AT3200 PTFE fabric permanently bonded to the race inside diameter. Self-lubricating — no greasing, no maintenance. The bonded liner is extremely resistant to the ball and race loosening under repeated impact loading, which is exactly what kerbs, berms and rough surfaces do to a suspension joint.
- Liner qualification — AT3200 liner is qualified to SAE-AS81820 Type A. Operating range -65°F to +325°F.
- Breakaway torque — 1 to 15 in-lb (0.5 to 6 in-lb for the 1/4″ bore), no load.
- Male threaded solid shanks only. Supplied without grease fittings; fittings are available on all sizes as a special order — contact us to quote.
- Parts are stamped with a “T” suffix (e.g. PRXM-5T). Some catalogs omit the T; it is the same part.

Road racing and motorsport: steering links and tie rods, upper and lower wishbone adjusters, pushrods and pullrods, anti-roll bar drop links, toe links, radius rods, shifter linkages, and pedal box and bias bar linkages. Standard fitment sizes on Formula Ford, Formula Continental, Formula 4, sports racers, Spec Racer, club sports prototypes and a wide range of production-based race cars.
Beyond the racetrack — the same properties that suit a suspension corner (self-lubricating liner, sealed-for-life operation, defined static load rating, low friction, corrosion-resistant coating) make this series a strong fit for:
- Robotics and automation — articulated linkages, end effectors, parallel kinematic arms and gantry tie rods where a greased joint would contaminate the work envelope.
- Experimental and homebuilt aviation — control-surface pushrods, bellcrank links, flap and trim linkages, and landing gear actuation on amateur-built aircraft.
- Aerospace and defense ground support — test rigs, tooling, jigs, actuation linkages and fixture articulation.
- UAV and drone airframes — larger platform control linkages, gimbal mounts and articulated payload arms, where the -4 and -5 sizes carry meaningful load at low weight.

Installation Notes
- Thread engagement matters more than torque. As a rule of thumb, no more than 1.5x the thread diameter should be exposed between the jam nut and the rod end body. Never run a rod end near the end of its thread engagement.
- Always use a jam nut. Remember that a PRXB (left hand) rod end needs a left hand jam nut. AN316 thin jam nuts are available in both hands.
- Load the ball in shear, not in tension through the misalignment range. Use high-strength close-tolerance bolts (NAS6604 series or AN bolts) and support both sides of the head with spacers or a clevis.
- Reducing the bore? Rod end reducers are available to step -4, -5 and -6 bores down one bolt size.
