Hyperco Helper & Tender Springs

Ideal for motorsports, street performance, and off-road applications, helper and tender springs support the main spring when the suspension is in full droop. Helper springs provide more usable deflection and are available in free lengths from 4″ to 6″. Inner diameters from 1.875″ to 3″ and solid heights from 0.440″ to 0.465″ or 0.640″ to 0.680″.

What Helper & Tender Springs Do

Helper and tender springs are enhancement springs used on coil-over damper setups. Their job is to keep the main spring in contact with its spring seat when the suspension reaches full droop — which happens during pit stops, when a wheel unloads over a curb, or when the car goes airborne. Without them, a main spring that’s shorter than the perch-to-perch distance can go loose and shift on the perch, causing a sudden ride-height change when it re-seats.

Helper springs are very low-rate springs (typically 25 lbs/in or less) that fully coil-bind under load. Once loaded they are solid and do not affect the rate of your main spring — they simply take up the slack at full droop and keep everything located.
Tender springs are higher in rate and load capacity. In addition to locating the main spring, a tender can be used as a dual-rate ride enhancement for lighter-load applications — the tender provides a soft initial rate, then coil-binds and drops out, leaving the main spring rate for the rest of the travel.

Installation

Helper and tender springs stack in series with your main spring on the coil-over body, separated by a coupler/slider that rides on the shock body between the two springs and keeps them aligned. Match the helper/tender ID to your main spring ID, and confirm you have the correct coupler for your spring ID and shock body diameter.
