23W28 Webster Gearset, prior to 1986 material 8620
23W28 with date (11/87 example) Webster gearset post 1986, 8620 material.
23W28S with date 1991 or later Webster “s” gearset, upgraded machining, hobbing and grinding facilities introduced. Material 8620.
23M28 (also dated 1993 or later) Webster “s” gearset with material change to 9310.
23 28 M Hewland gearset late tooth design, English version of 9310 steel.
23 28 N Hewland gearset with latest tooth design, English version of 9310 steel.
