How to service a cotton air filter

Remove the filter and tap out loose dirt. Spray POWER KLEEN generously onto both sides of the cotton media and let it soak for around ten minutes — do not let it dry on the filter. Rinse from the clean side out with low-pressure cold water until the water runs clear, then let the filter air dry naturally. Never use compressed air, a heat gun or an open flame, and never oil a filter that is still damp. Once dry, apply the red filter oil evenly along each pleat, wait about twenty minutes for it to wick through, and touch up any light patches before refitting.

Cotton gauze filters used in dusty conditions — dirt oval, rallycross, off-road, karting paddocks — need servicing far more often than a filter run on sealed circuits. Inspect after every event weekend and service when the pleats look grey rather than on a fixed interval.
